Mengenali keluarga yang berisiko terkena penyakit kanker turunan
Pertama-tama, kemungkinan bahwa seseorang mengalami kanker karena faktor turunan dapat mulai diduga jika lebih dari satu orang dalam keluarganya terserang penyakit kanker yang sama atau jenis kanker yang lain yang masih terkait. Biasanya dokter akan bertanya pada pasien apakah ada anggota keluarga yang lain yang terserang kanker.
Ada beberapa faktor keturunan yang perlu diperhatikan untuk memperkirakan faktor keturunan kanker yang ada dalam sebuah keluarga :
• Ada kerabat dekat yang terserang kanker.
• Kanker pernah terjadi pada keluarga itu dilebih dari satu generasi
• Beberapa anggota keluarga pernah mengalami kanker dari jenis yang sama (terkait)
• Kanker yang terjadi itu dialami oleh individu yang bersangkutan muncul pada usia dini dari pada normalnya terjadi.
• Ada lebih dari satu anggota keluarga yang terserang kanker
• Kanker tampaknya diwariskan dari orang tua kepada anak
Jika lebih dari satu menyangkut faktor-faktor diatas bisa dipastikan bahwa kanker yang didertia oleh individu tersebut adalah terjadi karena faktor turunan.
